Design and FeaturesThe My Book Studio is a book-shaped drive, echoing the larger Western Digital My Book Studio Edition II 6TB and Western Digital My Book Thunderbolt Duo. The My Book Studio eschews the extra interfaces of its cousins, simply relying on the ubiquitous USB interface found on all Macs. When connected to older Macs it runs at USB 2.0 speeds, while newer Macs with USB 3.0 will be able to use the drive to its full potential. Aside from the metal case, the drive is very much like its PC-based twin, the Western Digital My Book (4TB) . The My Book Studio also has a jack in the back for the included AC adapter as well as a USB 3.0 port for the included cable.
My Book drives are designed to look like a standard black hardback book, with the exception of the Pro/Studio series, which are silver, and the World series, which are white. Other than the book-like appearance of the drive's case, My Book drives originally featured vent holes on the top of the drives which spelled out a message in Morse code.
In addition to the book-like design, the My Book Essential Edition drives have an Intelligent Power Management feature that stops the drive platters after ten minutes of inactivity, rather than the usual expedient of slowing them down. The unit also turns on and off with the computer it is attached to.
Hi My book has been plugged into the computer since it crashed 2 years ago. It recently had to be wiped clean again, before the book was unplugged, I remember the light of my book going up and down. So the data should be there, but when I started everything up again, my book only had data from the beginning of this imac to 3/14. Any item what happened? How to verify if my book is working now?
The drive is not faulty: when I restart the laptop (Macbook Pro 2019) with the drive already attached, the Mac Book Duo 20TB shows up in the finder. The problem occurs only when I connect the drive while the laptop is already up.
The WD My Book Live is the company's network-attached storage device with the book-style design that can stand upright on a desk. The drive is typically connected to computers via USB and connects to a local network via ethernet. Meanwhile, the WD My Book Live app lets users access their stored files remotely through Western Digital's cloud servers.
I have 4 My book external hard drives once the warranty expired they stopped working. I contacted WD they were unable to help me because unfortunately the warranty had expired. A lot of money wasted but most importantly come files. I will never buy WD product even a couple of San Disk flash drives did not work brand new.
I am also having the same problem, backing up my new imac (1 month old) with lion on to a WD mybooklive that I previously used to successfully back up 2 windows PCs running Vista (no probs). I was initially planning to reset the WD drive to factory settings and then try the time machie back up- my reasoning being that mac and windows back ups on same drive causes the problem. I then thought I might just call the mac support people! :-)
How long does the first back up take? I have about 80GB to back up and the indication is that it will take weeks to complete the first backup. I have simply connected the myBookLive to the router via ethernet and the macbook pro to the router via ethernet.
any idea how to backup specific folders on Mac on the mybook live duo? i could back up full pc on timemachine or so however i can not access my files as photos and music and documents like i used to do when backing up a windows laptop.
When Western Digital stopped trying to make the My Book series look like actual books, it heralded a vast improvement in aesthetics. And, the two-tone wavy/flat styling still looks good on this latest version.
WD My Book Live is a network-attached storage device that looks like a small vertical book that you can stand on your desk. The WD My Book Live app allows owners to access their files and manage their devices remotely, even if the NAS is behind a firewall or router. 2b1af7f3a8
